5 Easy Pi Day Activities for Middle School

Can I just say that having a math holiday is amazing, but having a math holiday that involves treats and pies is even better! Welcome to March, home of March 14th (otherwise known as Pi Day!). Today I am going to share some fun and easy ideas to celebrate Pi Day in your middle school classroom.

1. Pi Investigation Activity - Where did Pi come from? Students will investigate the relationship between the circumference and diameter of several circles to see if their final calculations always equals Pi

2. When is Pi useful? Students will research and write any application of Pi, given a category (I used Pi in NASA and Pi in Building & Construction!)

3. Pi Day Guess the Picture! My students absolutely loved these and my husband struggled to answer the last one (don't tell him I told you!) Pi on ear, Pioneer!

4. Translation Activity - Mystery Picture. Students will translate shapes according to the directions to make a mystery picture (Pi Symbol!)

5. Area and Circumference of Circles Digital Escape Room - Last year's Pi Day was virtual due to Covid restrictions, so we made the best of it and played a digital escape room! All while eating pie, of course.

All of my featured Pi Day activities come with both print and digital options, to suit all classrooms! You can find each individual products in the links below, or bundle all three for a 30% discount!

Happy Pi Day!
